Most induction problems have simple causes. Before calling for service, run through these checks. Always unplug the cooktop before inspecting vents or cables, and follow your model’s manual for error codes, since they differ between brands.
1. Check the cookware
The most common cause. Test the pan with a magnet. If it does not stick firmly, it will not heat. See our induction cookware guide.
2. Check the pan size and position
Centre the pan on the ring. Very small pans (under about 12 cm) may not be detected.
3. Check the power supply
Plug directly into a working socket rated for the appliance load. Avoid weak extension boards. Low voltage can make the unit beep, drop power or turn off. A voltage stabiliser may help in areas with fluctuations.
4. Clear dirt and moisture
Wipe the glass and the pan base so both are clean and dry. Spills or a wet pan bottom can confuse sensors.
5. Let it cool and check ventilation
Induction units have cooling fans. Blocked vents or a hot kitchen make the unit reduce power or shut off. Keep several centimetres of free space around it and let it cool for 15 to 30 minutes.
6. Look at the display or error code
Find the code in the manual. Common meanings include overheating, no pan detected or voltage out of range.
7. Inspect the cable and plug
If the cable or plug is hot, discoloured or loose, stop using the cooktop and contact service.
8. Reset the unit
Unplug for a few minutes, plug back in and try a different power level or mode.
Quick diagnosis table
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Beeps, no heat | Incompatible or off-centre pan |
| Turns off after a few minutes | Overheating or blocked vents |
| Power keeps dropping | Low voltage or loose supply |
| Burning smell or sparks | Stop and call service |
When to call service
If the checks do not help, the cooktop shows repeated error codes, or you notice burning smells, cracks or a damaged cable, stop using it and contact the manufacturer or an authorised service centre. Do not open the unit yourself.
